Is Your Comfort Zone Getting too Comfy?

So did anyone take on the adventure challenge of facing your fears/stepping out of your comfort zone this week? If you did, be sure to tell us about it by commenting on this post!

Tammy, who was SUCH an encouragement and inspiration to us while we were on the 2012 Blank Canvas Tour (And we even got to meet and interview her!), shared how she stepped out of her comfort zone this week on her blog. Her example shows that’s it’s possible to live with a mindset of adventure even in something as simple as taking notes at a conference!

Check out this excerpt from Tammy’s blog.

“Last weekend, I attended my third Quitter conference, hosted by Jon Acuff
…I went to the conference to help encourage other dreamers. I also went to gain inspiration and insight from people who are living their dreams…
…I was thinking about how I could use the great insights that I learned. I take notes, and typically go back and look at them, but I wanted to do something different. Last year, my friend Christine did something that I really liked. She took visual notes from the Killer Tribes conference. I loved looking at them. Since I have difficulty drawing a stick figure, I immediately told her, “Wow, I could never do that!”
…But, guess what? I decided that I needed to push myself completely out of my comfort zone and try it…
…This is a huge step for me to actually share these with anyone. I look at these and think about how someone else could do them better. That would be fear at its finest. However, maybe somebody will enjoy seeing them. I’m learning that in order to create, we sometimes have to be very uncomfortable when first showing our art to the world. That is my big step for today. Sharing these with you.”

Way to be awesome, Tammy! We love that you’re trying something new and thought that it turned out great!

Curious? Go check out the whole post to see Tammy’s creativity unleashed! Be sure to follow her on her blogtwitter, and facebook for a bunch more inspiration and encouragement!

^ Tammy at the Quitter Conference  ^

I know that we especially enjoyed Tammy’s notes because we love what the Quitter conference is all about and wish we could’ve been there ourselves. But , at least the BlankCanvas was able to to make an appearance there, thanks to Tammy. (Yep! She’s just pretty much awesome!) She suggested that our BlankCanvas cards be used at the conference and we ended up sending BlankCanvas posters to the conference.

Check it out!

We also thought it was really cool to see how people from the conference, like Dustin, used their BlankCanvas poster! Click the picture to check out Dustin’s great idea for using the blank canvas again and again – DIYers take note 🙂

Now, back to Adventure Challenge… Be on the lookout for the next Adventure Challenge coming on Monday! (yes, we’re switching up the days, so don’t be confused!) We can’t wait to hear how you’re living with a mindset of adventure!

Building a Ministry after a Broken Marriage

We were able to stay with Doug & LIsa while we were in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was so fun to meet and get to know them! Their encouragement and passion were so refreshing! They are working towards their dream of supporting and serving pastors. We loved hearing their story of how they unexpectedly discovered this dream and how they’ve seen many different pieces of their life fit together to lead them to this point.

Don’t forget to watch the one-on-one Q & A’s with Doug & Lisa too!

Want to learn more about the Barnabas House of Oklahoma?

Check out their website and follow them on facebook and twitter.

Doug & Lisa also shared about the past struggles and hardships that they’ve had in their marriage. They have come from a hurt and struggling marriage to, now, pursuing their passion together. We love to see couples working together and we thought that Doug & Lisa’s story is very inspiring!

Thank you, Bib & Leila (Maverick’s interpretations of their names..) for your hospitality and friendship! We were so blessed through meeting you and we can’t wait to come and visit the Barnabas House. 🙂

We definitely know the value of Lisa’s advise of telling other people about your dream and surrounding yourself with encouraging and supportive people. We also know that it can be a hard step to take. The adventure challenge this week is to tell someone, friends, family, someone you just met, or anyone that will listen, about your dream or to connect with a group of encouraging people who will support your dream.

Then, let us know how it goes! How did they respond? What were the results of stepping out of your comfort zone to tell someone else about your passion? Are you glad you did it?

Remember, you can connect with us via facebook, twitter, youtube, or your blog to let us know how you completed the adventure challenge. We’d love to hear your story!

frijoles!

We left Nashville for a long drive to Tulsa. There was a strange gas station, a little van show, and a couple random characters who showed up along the way. The day ended with a bit of theological discussion for good measure.

While in Tulsa we discovered one of our Blank Canvas cards on the fridge, Randall encountered some prejudice?, and Maeve taught us some Spanish!

Blogging with a Purpose!

We got to meet Tiffany from Mrs. Pate Writes when we were in South Carolina. Christina had connected with her through her blog and we loved hearing about her passion to use her voice for a good cause! In fact, through her blog, she is partnering with and supporting many ministries and non-profit organizations. Check out her interview to find out how one blog link-up gave her the inspiration to use her blog to make a difference.

And don’t miss a behind-the-scenes look at the the highlights and hardships of Tiffany’s journey so far!

Want to get involved or just stay updated on what’s happening with Just Cause?

Follow Tiffany on her blog, facebook, and twitter!

You can also check the organizations she’s partnered with so far, Free the Girls and Sole Hope!

Tiffany, thank you for making us feel so welcome in South Carolina and for sharing your story with us! We wish you all the best as you continue moving forward on your project!

Tiffany shared with us how she deals with discouragement. So the adventure challenge for this week is to take a potentially discouraging situation or conversation that you’ve been in and, instead of being defeated by it, learn from it! Share how you’re going to / have taken those experiences and looked at them from a different perspective, chosen to be motivated instead discouraged by them, or have used them to continue building on your dream!

Don’t forget that you can  tweet at us, tell us on facebook, or even do a blog post or youtube video to participate in the challenge! Our goal is to encourage you to look at your daily life in a new way, so go ahead and meet the challenge in your own creative ways!

old granny short shorts

We headed from South Carolina to Atlanta to stalk an old grandma running around Olympic Park in short shorts. After finally capturing her on camera, we found where we were staying and became even more red-headed…?

Our team was a little excited to meet the Blimey Cow brothers of YouTube because we quite enjoy watching their videos. We were sad that Kelli wasn’t able to make it, but we had a great time hanging out with Josh and Jordan for a few hours, and even got Big Head Kid to do an on-the-street interview!

Whose Adventures Have You Been a Part Of?

This week’s interview comes from Pennsylvania. Dave is an old friend of David’s and we really enjoyed visiting him and his family and hearing about his journey of discovering his passion and starting a business.

He has built up a business based on a desire to support and encourage leaders in the church. His own experience if being in a leadership position and feeling isolated and alone, gave him the inspiration and motivation to find a solution to the problem of burnout that is so common in leadership. It took a lot of time and many small steps to get to where he is in his business today, but he says that the journey has been worth it!

Be sure to check out the Ad Lib Music website and connect with Dave on facebook and twitter.

Thank you, Dave, for sharing your story, we were so encouraged by your passion! Keep up the awesome work!

We love Dave’s mission to support and encourage people in their journeys. I’m sure he has played a role in many, many adventures. We know how easy it is to feel isolated and alone in the process of chasing a dream or stepping out of our comfort zones. We believe that sharing in each other’s adventures is so important because it is nearly impossible to accomplish your dream all alone. Let’s recognize that our own adventures and dreams are part of a bigger picture and make an effort to get connected with each other, realizing that the parts we can play in others’ stories in turn enrich our own.

Be a part of someone else’s adventure or tell about a time that you have! Whether it’s through encouragement, support, or just being there through the journey, every little thing counts and can make a world of difference!

Remember, each week we’ll be putting out a new challenge and you can respond in whatever way works for you – tweet at us, tell us on facebook, or even do a blog post or youtube video! Our goal is to encourage you to look at your daily life in a new way 🙂

what do cannibals think about while eating?

More from South Carolina…

Catch-up days are always a little more uneventful for the team, but Randall takes the opportunity to test out his cooking skills. The kids do this and that and supper ends up a bit questionable. Then a horrible discovery is made, and everyone shows off on a pull-up bar.

The team heads off to church, but pretty much just gets lost. Maeve discovers she has an extra finger or toe?! The team gets lost AGAIN, but in the middle of nowhere this time, but we finally make it to our evening visit, where we learn things you shouldn’t encourage your kids to do and things that cannibals think while eating. We ended the night with the realization that Randall has squeaky feet.

cow stomach soup

It’s been several days because I was mad at the internet refusing to upload the vlogs I’d edited! However, we’ve been having a great low-key time here in El Paso, and have managed to attend a breakfast of cow stomach soup and a Mexican birthday party!

Last night we went out to film the last part of an inspirational video we’re working on, but it was getting dark, so it might have accidentally been a practice run… We also finally worked it out to film the face dance we’ve been planning to do for a long time! That should turn out fun, but I don’t know when it will be up 🙂

Ok, so let’s get back to the vlogs! A couple of weeks ago we left Virginia (DC area) and headed to Charleston, SC. On the way someone got a hankering for cake, in the van? Sounds like a good idea, right? And on the way to buy said cake, we discovered a praying mantis with an affinity for shopping?!

The team starts out the day narrowly avoiding killing a cyclist before stopping by to visit Tiffany from Mrs Pate Writes, who sends us to the beach. We’re a little too stupid to make it to the beach, however, but we do manage to find another place for the children to get sopping wet. Krista gives her friends gifts via video, and contemplates buying something very questionable for Christina. We eventually reach our destination for the night, but our host is gone!

All Kinds of Adventure in Washington D.C.

This just in – Randall is as cool as an old lady. The team sets out to figure out the DC metro system, does a few acrobatics, and manages to lose David. What? We then get to meet Jennifer from Mommy Huh, Randall considers becoming a dictator, but then decides to move to Neptune, all the while Christina’s feet are becoming two giant blisters as we traipse all over DC! Eventually we end up at KFC, where a line is distinctly crossed…
